PRR 7163, EFS-17M, 1963 |
Description: |
Wye Switches. Here is an original photo that I took at the "Wye Switches" (aka "New Portage Junction") in Duncansville, Pennsylvania in the Summer of 1963. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #7163, an EFS-17M road switcher built by GM-EMD in November of 1957 and rated at 1,750 horsepower. In this context, it's pulling a mixed-cargo freight train from the Altoona Yards to the Hollidaysburg Yards. |

PRR 2536, GF-25, 1965 |
Description: |
Brickyard. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad trains at the Brickyard Crossing in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 18 July 1965. On the left (L to R) are PRR engines #6306 and #6303. Both are AF-27's built by the American Locomotive Company during 1965 and rated at 2,700 horsepower each. They are returning to East Altoona after helping or pushing a train up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin, Pennsylvania. On the right (L to R) are PRR engines #2534, #2247, and #7163. #2534 is a GF-25 built by GE in February of 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #2247 is an EF-22 built by GM-EMD in 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #7163 is an EFS-17M built by GM-EMD in 1957 and rated at 1,750 horsepower. They are pulling a 43-car eastbound merchandise train with N-8 caboose #478032. |

PRR 7163 - Pennsylvania RR |
Description: |
This was a 1958 EMD GP9 and labeled a class EFS17m with a 1750 hp prime mover. Later it would become PC 7163. The date is approximate but with Warren Evans help, the date must be after 1966 when PRR used large numbers on the cabs. With the help of Daniel Andres, Jr, who identified the location, this was taken at upper Bel-Del yard in Phillipsburg, NJ. Forrest Trittenbach photo |
