Description: |
Horseshoe Curve-1961. Here is an original photo that I took at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 17 August 1961. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #7155 and another unit whose road number is not recorded. Both are EFS-17 road switchers built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,750 horsepower each. #7155 was constructed in October of 1957. They're pulling a mixed-cargo freight train around the Curve and down the Allegheny Mountains to Altoona and points East. Pictured at the left is Thomas H. Lantz of Duncansville, Pennsylvania. He was 14 years old at the time! Photo taken at the site of the (demolished) Kittanning Point Station. |
